UK shoppers are getting squeezed – Real Food Budget set out to fix that. We built a SaaS product from the ground up: receipt scanning, supermarket price comparisons, interactive spend charts, and smart meal planning. All in one place.
The Brief
Real Food Budget was built around a single frustration: UK grocery prices had risen sharply and most budgeting tools were too generic to be useful at the supermarket level. The founder wanted a consumer SaaS product that could genuinely help households make smarter choices – not just track spending, but compare prices across retailers, plan meals around what's affordable, and make the data feel intuitive rather than overwhelming.
What We Built
We built the full product from scratch on Next.js: receipt scanning via OCR, live supermarket price comparison across major UK retailers, interactive spend charts with category breakdowns, and a meal planning tool that connects budget to the weekly shop. The architecture was designed for performance and scale from day one, with a clean onboarding flow to minimise drop-off. A product this feature-rich required close collaboration across design, data, and engineering – and the result is a genuinely useful tool for cost-conscious households.
